IMBA Australia creates, enhances and protects great trail experiences for Australian mountain bike riders.

Workshop 3 - Margaret River WA

The Magic of Margaret River

Well, as most of you would know, Margaret River (MR) is generally know for is world class surfing and boutique wineries and more recently, some outstanding micro breweries, but did you know that Margaret River is also a hot spot for some truly amazing MTB trails. Sure, there are all the inherent issues of keen locals and time poor land managers, but the potential of the DEC forest and the people who are willing to make it happen, meant that Margaret River was the place to be for Trail Sustainability Workshop number 3.

Workshop 2 - Mt Coot-tha Brisbane

Round 2: the Brisbane Trails Sustainability Workshop at Mt Coot-tha

Rockwheeling in Townsville

As part of the national advocacy tour, IMBA Australia visited the Rockwheelers MTB Club in Townsville to check out their latest trails. Our rationale was to build the case that there are working trails in the land down under that provide perfect examples of the IMBA model in operation in our soils and our climate. On top of that, Joey was keen to see how these guys were going after his visit in 2002.

Cairns and Tablelands Trail Sustainability Workshop Wrap Up

Wow! Holy flying fox batman. Cairns and the Tablelands ooze MTB potential on all fronts. As you may know Cairns was the site of the 1996 World MTB Championships and while the legacy has never lived up to the visions of the organisers of that iconic event, there is certainly some momentum to get Cairns back on the MTB map now.

2010 IMBA Australia Trail Sustainability Workshops

It has begun; Nick and Joey are on the road conducting trail workshops in 5 locations across Australia to promote sustainable mountain bike management, tourism and recreation.

Escapegoat Adventures Reach Lofty Heights

Escapegoat Adventures, a South Australian MTB Tour Company, has successfully obtained approval to take guided tours on one of the Mt Lofty Ranges (Adelaide) iconic fire tracks. This approval is unprecedented in SA as access to Cleland National Park on Bikes has always been off limits. While the tour is held on some well groomed fire tracks, the vertical drop is significant and riders will enjoy the some fantastic views, local wildlife and the MTB experience.

Peter Rabbits totally Rad Garden Path

Peter, also known as Rabbit has been busy in his back yard. See this video for ideas on how to create MTB trails in your back yard.

This example demonstrates a fine blend of the back yard arts. No, nothing suspicious, I’m talking about a garden that combines permaculture, local endemic species of flora and fauna with an intricately placed kick arse trail, this could be heaven!

Bowmaniac Philosophy - The Prequel

In SA, my nick name is the "Bowmaniac" and for numerous reasons which I will not go into here.

Working as a professional trail builder in SA since 2002, I was quite often asked to write articles about trail sustainability for the Bicycle SA newsletter. I have picked out some of my favourites for you.

DISCLAIMER:
These "Confessions" are colloquial and must be taken lightly, with good humour. Light reading with some philosophy thrown in. Enjoy.
