IMBA HQ – Boulder Colorado

Boulder is way cool; a lovely town at the foot of some large mountains, with many cafes, restaurants, bike shops, galleries and trails. The main purpose of my visit was to spend some time with the IMBA staff to help outline the development of IMBA Australia and the support that they can provide to make it a success. I can say it has been inspiring and rewarding and Aussie riders will see the benefits of these discussions over the next 12 months.

Day 2: check this out, a great summary by Mark Eller

And yes I was at the IMBA Congress instead of trying out a demo bike on purpose built single track. Call me crazy but that’s the call when you are paid by Aussie MTB riders to gain access in our homeland. It was worth going nonetheless, to get some insight into the inner workings of IMBA in the US.

Not only is Augusta, Georgia (USA) the birthplace of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, it is also the location for the 2010 IMBA World Summit. It has been one hell of a trip to get here and I am still not fully adjusted to the time zone, but IMBA Australia is here to gather as much info as possible to bring it back home. It also means I have been on the road for over a month now. So if you think I am really bad at returning emails and phone calls, maybe now you can understand why; apologies nonetheless.

Workshop 4 - Lysterfield Melbourne

Workshop 4: Lysterfield, Melbourne

Four on the floor; that is for sure. The pace was really picking up by the time we hit Melbourne. Especially when you have got a guy like Snozza (of Full Gas Promotions and Trailmix fame) driving the peloton. Trying to keep up with this guy is like trying to tame the wind.

Workshop 3 - Margaret River WA

The Magic of Margaret River

Well, as most of you would know, Margaret River (MR) is generally know for is world class surfing and boutique wineries and more recently, some outstanding micro breweries, but did you know that Margaret River is also a hot spot for some truly amazing MTB trails. Sure, there are all the inherent issues of keen locals and time poor land managers, but the potential of the DEC forest and the people who are willing to make it happen, meant that Margaret River was the place to be for Trail Sustainability Workshop number 3.

Workshop 2 - Mt Coot-tha Brisbane

Round 2: the Brisbane Trails Sustainability Workshop at Mt Coot-tha

Rockwheeling in Townsville

As part of the national advocacy tour, IMBA Australia visited the Rockwheelers MTB Club in Townsville to check out their latest trails. Our rationale was to build the case that there are working trails in the land down under that provide perfect examples of the IMBA model in operation in our soils and our climate. On top of that, Joey was keen to see how these guys were going after his visit in 2002.
